Everything is packed.
Scratch that.
Everything is READY to be packed into the rental car! Camping supplies, foodstuffs, a tent built for eight people supplied by the Tulls. Also a football, because why not? More stuff than we probably need, although we'll end up using all of it somehow. We're excited about seeing all of you who we'll be seeing along the way, especially the animals. Speaking of animals, here are some of our overall goals for the roadtrip:
KATE'S GOALS:
1) See a moose.
2) NOT NOT NOT learn why on earth the above flyer was ever created.
3) Avoid bears (unless I'm in the car).
4) Force David to eat the can of salmon that he insisted on packing (like we need CANNED SALMON! WE'RE CAMPING FOR 2 NIGHTS!)
DAVID'S GOALS:
1) Bears, bears, bears (from the safety of a vehicle or very safe distance, of course)
2) Get Grandpa to tell that joke about the S-Car (you know the one I mean)
3) See wildlife or a wildlife activity I've never seen out west before. It could be a cougar. A bobcat. Hopefully not a rattlesnake, although that would be a first. Or an animal I've seen doing something I've never seen: a bear fishing, a moose running, or beavers outsourced by BP to develop a solution to the oil spill. Something like that.
4) Find some use for the pretty awesome Crocodile Dundee knife that we have packed.
Tomorrow's trek takes us directly back where we just were: Iowa City. Questions of interest: Will we stop at that same Steak and Shake in Champaign, IL for the fifth time in a row? If we do, will we be seated by the same employee, Shirley, for the fifth time in a row? Will we see anything, ANYTHING, interesting in Indiana? Will we be able to resist the golden, heavenly glow of Sports Column, Summit, and the rest of Iowa City's legendarily classy bar scene? Stay tuned to this blog daily as we will attempt to close out our days by providing answers to these burning questions. AND MORE!
